Sweeney Miller has opened its first drop-in law centre in the city to give greater access to legal support.
The new centre on Southwick Green has opened under the firm’s Accident Dummy brand, offering free face-to-face advice to the public on a range of issues from accidents at work, slips and trips to medical negligence.
The team will be able to answer questions on legal issues, advise people on the merits of their case and what the best next steps would be.
Legal partner Paul Miller explained that the reason behind opening the Accident Dummy clinic was to offer a more community-based service to people who deserve access to legal advice but may feel daunted visiting a solicitor’s office.
He said: “Often in our line of work we come across genuine cases where people deserve legal representation to help them get what they are entitled to, yet they feel unsure about approaching a solicitor.
“Our new clinic will help to fill that gap and is very much at the heart of the local community. We decided to use the Accident Dummy brand as we feel it is less officious and more people-friendly.”
The drop-in will also offer support and advice on a wide range of legal matters including family issues, property and will-making.
The centre will be staffed by former city council compliance officer Brian Taylor who will man the desk from 10.30am to 2.30pm on a Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday and from 10am to 1pm on a Saturday.
It will run on a drop-in basis, but people can make appointments in advance by calling free on 0800 0147 666.
