Chris has worked with Sweeney Miller as a Consultant Solicitor over a number of years and has various business interests outside of the legal profession.
Since qualifying in 1996 with a well-known top legal 500 regional firm, he has practised in many areas of law. Whilst his main focus is within in our Commercial and Corporate Department, Chris has developed a reputation for advising a range of property investors looking to access the Care sector, drawing on his considerable experience in both the areas of Commercial and Residential property, combined with his knowledge as a Director, within the property and care fields.
For over 20 years Chris has advised on a wide range of commercial contracts and provided advice to SME directors and shareholders on many aspects of corporate law. With his previous experience as an independent financial adviser, Chris has a strong interest in the legal aspects of taxation.
Chris is a former Professional Footballer and his experience in the professional game extends from advising on player contracts and representation agreements, to assisting in visa applications.
Chris is appointed as an Independent member to the Football Association’s Judicial Panel in London.
He frequently sits a range of regulatory commissions, dealing with a variety of disciplinary and integrity related matters that include on-field offences, breaches of agents and transfer regulations, to anti-doping and match fixing offences.
On the commercial side, Chris has advised on a whole range of matters ranging from the sale of software apps on Google to the drafting of a debenture security for a company pension fund loan, which involved providing taxation advice on permissible investments and potential penalties. He also has knowledge in the area of Joint Operating Agreements, within Oil and Gas contract law.
He has also undertaken a major review and redraft of a tax investigation defence policy, underwritten by a major UK insurer.
Chris represented a well-known Soccer Academy in the North East that was awarded, what was believed to be, the largest value services contract by a Local authority, to provide various coaching services to a School Academy.
He also advised on a range of company and business related matters including company share purchases, shareholder agreements, as well as asset sales across a number of sectors.
Chris can also assist in obtaining transactional tax clearances from HMRC and making related elections. He has recently advised on issues of tax residency and a related double tax treaty and has additional experience in supporting businesses in HMRC compliance and tax investigations, as well as debt management, working alongside Tax Consultants and Accountants in this area.
