Sweeney Miller Law strengthens commercial offering with Partner appointment

North East law firm Sweeney Miller Law has appointed Rishi Kohli as a Partner in its Newcastle office, strengthening its services for businesses and formally launching a dedicated commercial offering.

Rishi joins the partnership with extensive experience advising on complex commercial contracts including supply and distribution arrangements, services and outsourcing agreements and framework agreements. He will also provide additional commercial support to the firm’s considerable asset and share sale work.  He is recognised for providing pragmatic, commercially focused advice that balances legal risk with business objectives—particularly in business‑critical, time‑sensitive and high‑growth environments.

Rishi trained and qualified as a solicitor at a transatlantic law firm in 2016, specialising in commercial agreements for large‑scale infrastructure projects. He went on to work in‑house at a global renewable energy business, advising on contracts supporting offshore and onshore wind projects. Most recently, he spent four years at an international law firm in a senior leadership role overseeing a high‑performing legal services team delivering complex, high‑volume and business‑critical work.

In Q4 2025, Rishi ranked 15th in the Legal LinkedInfluencers List—his fifth consecutive appearance. The recognition reflects his consistent, practical insights on commercial contracting and his focus on community-building and engagement across the legal and business community.

Surbhi Vedhara, Managing Partner at Sweeney Miller Law, said:

“We are excited to welcome Rishi to the partnership, who will bring a fresh perspective as we undertake the next phase of our growth strategy.”

Commenting on his appointment, Rishi Kohli said:

“What attracted me to join Sweeney Miller Law is the culture—it’s collaborative, people‑focused and commercially driven, with high technical standards and real trust and autonomy. It’s an environment where people are encouraged to take ownership, grow with confidence and help shape the firm’s future in a positive, sustainable way.”

Rishi’s arrival further enhances Sweeney Miller Law’s support for SMEs and larger corporates across the region and beyond. It also follows the recent appointment of employment law specialist Paul Lott, expanding the firm’s offering for employers and reinforcing its commitment to strategic growth.
