Leading Gosforth-based law firm, Sweeney Miller, has added to its successful Commercial Property and Private Client departments with the appointment of solicitors Matthew Smith and Sarah McColl, as it looks to bolster its reputation for providing excellent client service across its service areas.
Senior Property Solicitor, Matthew, joins the firm’s successful Commercial Property department from a local firm where he spent nine years developing significant experience in the industry, helping commercial and private clients with all aspects of property law. He will work closely with the firm’s Head of Commercial Property, Jess Fenwick, on growing Sweeney Miller’s already busy team covering commercial leases, rent reviews, property and asset purchases and sales, and landlord and tenant law, among other areas.
Matthew commented: “I am looking forward to joining Sweeney Miller’s successful Commercial Property team and supporting the profile of the team and the wider firm. I’m excited to work within a renowned team with a wealth of experience and expertise in commercial property and I am also looking forward to working in my home city of Sunderland.”
Sarah McColl joins the firm as Private Client Solicitor after 12 years at another leading local firm, where she trained and qualified. Having also worked in Residential Conveyancing, Sarah now specialises in Wills, Lasting Powers of Attorney, and Probate matters and will support the firm’s successful Wills, Trusts, and Estates department. Sarah will work closely with the partners and the existing private client department to capitalise on the firm’s existing reputation in the region and grow and develop the team.
Commenting on her appointment, Sarah said: “I’m excited to join the Sweeney Miller team as everyone has been really welcoming and there is a friendly atmosphere. The firm is forward thinking, well organised and is dedicated to progressing individual careers. I’m very excited about this next chapter of my career and the plans we have for growing and developing the Private Client department.”
The new hires take the firm’s headcount across its Newcastle and Sunderland offices to 83; Surbhi Vedhara, Managing Partner at Sweeney Miller Law commented: “We are delighted to welcome Matthew and Sarah to the firm and we’re looking forward to seeing them develop in their respective areas. Their appointments are testament to the firm’s continued success and commitment to providing service excellence to our business and private clients. We pride ourselves on supporting the professional development of all of our colleagues and promoting career progression across our service areas.”
Aside from new hires, Sweeney Miller has recently seen continued success across its service areas, recently being named as the most active firm in the region for Residential Conveyancing purchase transactions and being shortlisted for Residential Conveyancing Team of the Year at the British Conveyancing Awards to be announced in mid-March.
