Surbhi Vedhara, Managing Partner at Sweeney Miller Law, has been named Inspiring Female (Medium Business) at the 2023 North East Chamber of Commerce Inspiring Females awards.
In the ceremony held at Newcastle Civic Centre on Friday 24th November, Surbhi and other female business leaders and rising stars from across the region, joined together to celebrate women who make a difference in their field, to their businesses and colleagues, to their community, and to the region. The Inspiring Female (Medium Business) category focusses on and celebrates individuals who deserve recognition for their contribution to their organisation.
Surbhi, who moved to the UK in 2002 after achieving a business degree in India, joined Sweeney Miller Law in 2007 as a paralegal before qualifying as a solicitor in 2009. Through a combination of her technical ability, client rapport and entrepreneurial flair, Surbhi's career quickly flourished, seeing her become an Equity Partner in 2013 and ultimately Managing Partner in 2021.
In parallel with her own rapid career progression, Surbhi has been pivotal in Sweeney Miller Law’s exceptional growth trajectory, resulting in the firm being recognised as a major player in the region, attracting work from across the UK from its offices in Newcastle and Sunderland.
Throughout her career and in her Managing Partner role, Surbhi has been committed to promoting equality, diversity and inclusion. As a busy working mother, Surbhi also regards her colleagues as a family and encourages their career development with the firm, she has also been instrumental in introducing a range of impactful wellbeing for the team.
As a champion of nurturing talent, Surbhi has created an environment where careers across every discipline can flourish at the firm, with no ‘glass ceilings’. Surbhi continues to be a trusted adviser to her wide ranging and loyal clients, as well as a mentor and guide to her colleagues.
