At Sweeney Miller Law, we are proud to support the continued International Women’s Day Campaigns, and particularly the 2024 theme: inspire inclusion.

International Women's Day (IWD) is a global celebration of the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. Each year, this day serves as a powerful reminder of the progress made towards gender equality and highlights the work that still needs to be done. According to the official IWD website, the 2024 theme, “emphasises the importance of diversity and empowerment in all aspects of society”.

At Sweeney Miller Law we are committed to championing equality and diversity across the firm, and we have a robust and comprehensive ED&I policy. We are pleased to see this reflected in the gender and ethnic diversity of our workforce. We are keen to promote the personal and professional development of each and every one of our team members, regardless of their background and provide the best workplace opportunities for all our staff. As a firm, we not only encourage diversity but celebrate it at all levels.

Surbhi Vedhara, Managing Partner and recent winner of the Medium Business category at the North East Chamber of Commerce (NEECC) Inspiring Females awards, has been committed to promoting equality, diversity and inclusion throughout her career at Sweeney Miller.

Reflecting on the theme of this year’s International Women’s Day, Surbhi commented: “Inspiring inclusion, particularly in the legal industry, is something that resonates deeply with myself and the rest of the management team at Sweeney Miller Law. While women make up 61% of solicitors, only 35% are represented at equity partner level in the UK, so there is still work to be done in the legal industry as a whole. As a female led law firm, we are incredibly focussed on promoting inclusion and diversity in our workforce, at all levels and across all service areas and helping colleagues to develop successful, fulfilling careers in law.”

International Women’s Day is celebrated annually on 8th March.
